A path-changing injury

My family didn’t have money. I was being scouted for sports scholarships as a public high school freshman, then I got injured. I was demoralized. I pivoted.

College at 14

I focused on academics and was invited to attend college early. I left home at 14, graduated summa cum laude in 3 years at 17, earned a PhD in biomedical science, and later an MBA.

Volunteered, then ran companies

I started by volunteering for companies I wanted to learn from. They saw how I approached problems and how fast the impact landed, so the opportunities grew. That led to running and scaling startups and divisions inside Fortune 50 and FAANG companies.

The good and the bad

Over 20 years I’ve seen the wonderful and the terrible. Projects taken, years lost, money made and lost. I’ve felt trapped by my body and by my situation. I’ve kept finding a way through.

The specifics differ. The challenges don’t.

My path is atypical. The themes aren’t. I keep having the same conversations with friends, family and colleagues about the same walls.

Why I write

My unusual route showed me things most people haven’t had the chance to see yet. The few that changed my life, I write down, so you get the benefit without the years of trial and error.
